“Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children’s children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance.”
-Theodore Roosevelt
The Rainbow Falls Trail is the southernmost trail in the Pisgah Ranger District. Starting at the Grassy Ridge Trailhead in Gorges State Park, it leads to an impressive 150 ft. waterfall. It’s an easy hike, so on a gorgeous, sunny day, the family headed outside. The trail winds beside the gentle Horsepasture River for most of the hike. The sun crept through the trees, the weather unseasonably warm for mid-February. The falls themselves are colossal, water thundering down the ledge to a giant pool below. We stopped often to just take in nature, cherishing time spent together.
