Elk Knob State Park – Maple Run Trail, Beech Tree Trail

May 28, 2017

“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in.”
– Rachel Carson

The family continues to fall in love with Elk Knob State Park. We hiked two trails near the Summit Trail: Maple Run Trail (.5 miles) and Beech Tree Trail (1 mile). Both are short with little to no undulation. There are not any grand, sweeping mountain views, but something better awaits, immersion in the depths of nature.

  1. Nice family photos. Congrats to the family photo team! Another book you may find interesting come next winter…’Last Child in the Woods, Saving our children from nature-deficit disorder.’ Updated and expanded 2008.
