Cat Gap Loop Trail, Cat Gap Bypass Trail

February 28, 2016

Cat Gap Loop Trail is an excellent trail for good views, moderate terrain, creek crossings and wonderful pine trees. In fact, I saw many couples, presumably from Brevard College, on this sunny, warm February day.

The trail starts from the parking lot of the Fish Hatchery on F.S. 50. There are several hiking options: Cat Gap to John Rock and back; Cat Gap to Butter Gap and back, or just Cat Gap Loop.

The Cat Gap Loop Trail becomes very steep as it approaches the Art Loeb Trail, but for those wishing to avoid this, the Cat Gap Bypass Trail is very mild. The crossings of John Rock Branch and Cedar Rock Creek provide gorgeous views; colorful rocks, shimmering in the sun.

Total mileage is 5.2 miles.
