Pinnacle Mountain

November 22, 2014

Taking advantage of a sunny, warm, late fall day, Ramona and I completed the 7 mile hike from Pinnacle Park to the Pinnacle via West Fork Trail and back.  While short in distance, there is a 2,200 foot gain. Pinnacle Park has the unique attribute of being wholly owned and operated by the City of Sylva.  The West Fork Trail follows what appears to be a wagon path for a majority of the climb.  At the pinnacle there are excellent views of Sylva, Webster and the Cowee Mountains.

I love to hike with an 8-year-old.  While I would normally be plowing along thinking about any number of subjects, with a youngster, one has to stop and decide if this particular stream would be a good watering spot for woodland fairies to drink from or spend an hour discussing which Lord of the Ring character you would rather be.  I found myself appreciating nature through a much better lens.

Total mileage is 7 miles.
