Bent Creek Experimental Forest: Part 3

January 15, 2017

With a week off from hiking due to the snow last weekend, I was excited to make my way back to the woods. The northern section of Bent Creek is more challenging than the southern section. I set my sights on seven trails: North Boundary Trail, Green’s Lick Trail, Sidehill Trail, Little Hickory Top Trail, Boyd Branch Trail, Ingles Field Gap Trail, and Ingles Field Connector Trail.

These trails were easy to follow, sans the North Boundary Trail. For some reason it is not listed on the any of the Pisgah area maps. The eastern trailhead starts on F.S. 485 (near F.S. 491 and Ledford Trail) and runs to Yellow Gap (1.5 miles from Green’s Lick Trailhead). The Gap is indicated by a double blue blaze (and tons of private land markings).

Total mileage is 18.53 miles.
